The power of a good story

This presentation was made to the Age Concern Conference in 2016. The presentation aimed to support organisations to:

  • Make a greater difference through telling a robust performance story about their work
  • Respond better to their users and funders and provide better services and programmes
  • Help people take charge and be more skilful in understanding and communicating value and impact
  • Deepen understanding about the role of feedback loops and story.

Gathering data and telling a robust performance story should be a helpful servant to your work. Identifying the feedback loops and information needed to understand the difference you are making is the key to telling a clear and robust performance story.

The presentation identifies the kinds of evidence that funders like to see and methods to gather that evidence. Techniques are shared in terms of how to gather feedback from programme or service users and effective ways to tell a performance story.
